• Fire Suppression –
The very reason Daytona Beach established a fire department in 1909, to save lives and
protect property from the devastation of fire. We are the longest operating fire
department in Volusia County, and specialize in rapid aggressive structural
firefighting.
• Advanced Life
Support – For 35 years our Paramedics have provided the highest prehospital
Emergency Medical Service available, now from ten (10) units stationed throughout the
city to give rapid response. Last year our average response time was only 4min.
5sec. (this includes non-emergencies).
• Vehicle Extrication
– All Engine Companies are equipped with Amkus “Jaws of Life” (as well as several other
specialty extrication tools) allowing firefighters to rapidly remove victims entrapped in
vehicle accidents.
• Wildland Fire
Suppression – In addition to normal wildfire season, twice in the last 20 years
large wildland conflagrations have burned thousands of acres, leaving many homes
throughout the county in ashes. But Daytona Beach firefighters have held the line,
and not lost a single house.
• Hazardous Material
Technicians – Trained to protect our community from the very special dangers
associated with accidental release of hazardous materials, we are a vital component of a
multi-jurisdictional team.
• Motor Medics – When
special events overwhelm our streets with gridlock, firefighters can still respond
quickly, bringing ALS Emergency Medical Service by motorcycle to patients who would be
otherwise inaccessible.
• Technical Rescue
Team – Equipped and trained for highly specialized rescue emergencies,
including: High Angle Rope Rescue, Heavy Equipment Extrication, Confined Space &
Structure Collapse Rescue, and Swift Water Rescue.
• Dive Rescue Team –
Certified in all aspects of rescue diving, this team responds to any emergency occurring
within our miles of waterway.
• Anti Terrorism –
Responding to any emergency involving suspected terrorism or WMD (Weapons of Mass
Destruction). From rapid rescue, to decontamination and isolation, your
firefighters are the first line of defense in homeland security.
• Emergency
Management - For large-scale emergencies: hurricanes, severe tornados,
domestic terrorism, or epic wildfires, the fire department will establish the command
structure, coordinate with all involved agencies, and ensure sufficient resources to
mitigate any emergency.
